Sham City

It's hard to be a football fan and not think about the implications of the guilty verdict against Man City. If the appeal fails, it will change the outlook of the game for at least next season, and that's before you even consider the period of time the charges cover.

Ultimately, I feel for the fans, because they haven't done anything wrong. The same goes for the players, who just want to play as well as they can and win as much as they can.

I don't like the banner unveiled by City fans, or the waving of money. If my club, Liverpool, were in the same situation, I'd be ashamed and annoyed. I wouldn't be gloating or making fun of it.

The league will be in limbo, and people will be left feeling odd after results because of the cloud hanging over City.

If City lose the appeal and face punishment, the old Brian Clough quote comes ringing in my ears: "The first thing you can do for me is throw your medals in the bin, because you've never won anything fairly; you've done it by cheating."

Thank you for visiting the Dwelling place.
