The well that never runs dry

“Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’”

John 4:13–14 (ESV)

Life hurts us. It drains us, takes things from us, and leaves us feeling empty, wondering where to turn.

We often run to alcohol, our phones, entertainment, or anything that gives us a quick dopamine hit to make us feel better. For a moment, it feels like we’ve found relief. But, as many of us learn the hard way, it’s a false economy. The satisfaction never lasts, and before long we’re thirsty again.

The only One who truly sustains us is God. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and come to Him each day to be renewed so that we don’t grow weary and run on empty.

So often, burnout comes because we look for validation, pleasure, or purpose in things that were never designed to provide them. We chase careers, approval from others, possessions, or success, hoping they’ll satisfy us. They never do.

We think peace and happiness come from comfort, luxury, or the latest trend. Yet real peace is found in spending time in God’s Word and in His presence. It grows as we forgive those who have hurt us and begin to love people we would once have avoided.

His well never runs dry.

When problems arise, when fatigue sets in, or when life feels overwhelming, we don’t need to search for another temporary fix. We simply need to return to the One who continually fills us with living water.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
