The world cup final

It wasn’t a great watch.

That’s me being completely honest. I watched the whole match, and while Spain were excellent, the game itself never really came alive.

Spain were outstanding as a team. Every player knew their role, trusted the system, and worked together as a coherent unit. They looked like a side that had been built over time rather than simply assembled.

Argentina had no answers. They struggled to impose themselves and, in truth, spent too much of the match trying to disrupt the game rather than play football. What happened after the final whistle was a disgrace, and I wouldn’t be against bans for those involved.

Rodri was magnificent throughout the tournament and once again proved why he’s one of the best midfielders in the world. He was the heartbeat of this Spanish side.

Lionel Messi had a few bright moments but never had the moment to influence the final. And his reaction to Marc Cucurella after the match made me laugh more than anything else.

Sadly, football seems to be moving in a direction I’m struggling to enjoy. This tournament felt like another step down that road: eye-watering ticket prices, a half-time show, and hydration breaks in air-conditioned stadiums. It all feels increasingly like entertainment first and football second.

Still, there’s no taking anything away from the winners.

¡Enhorabuena, España!
